Margaret River is fast becoming one of the world’s most recognised reputable wine making regions. Less than 60 years old, it is a relative newcomer in its market, but is not to be underestimated. Margaret River’s maritime-influenced weather conditions provide an almost mediterranean climate with mild wet winters and long dry summers, perfect for cultivating grapes.
In addition to the fair weather conditions the undulating countryside and rich selection of soils provide additional benefits for the regions winemakers. All of these factors contribute to Margaret River now commanding more than 20% of Australia’s premium wine market.
The region is made up predominantly of boutique wine producers like Arimia, mixed with a few larger wineries. It stretches about 100km north to south, and is as wide as 27km in some parts. The most commonly grown grape varieties of the region include cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and semillon blanc.
